A Guide to Meatloaf: History, Recipe, and Variations

1:What is Meatloaf?

MMeatloaf is a dish that consists of ground meat, frequently beef or pork, mixed with colorful constituents similar as breadcrumbs, vegetables, and seasonings. The admixture is also formed into a loaf shape and ignited in the roaster. Meatloaf has a long history dating back to ancient Rome, where it was known as” isicia omentata.” It has since come a popular dish in numerous countries around the world, including the United States, where it’s frequently served as a comfort food.

2: Classic Meatloaf Recipe

Ingredients

For Meatloaf:

2 lbs ground beef / 1/2 16 pork sausage
1 large chopped onion
11 small green pepper
1 tsp mixed garlic
1 tsp chopped thyme
1 1/2 tbsp Cajun seasoning
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 c beef broth
1 tbsp tomato paste
2 beaten eggs
3/4 c bread crumbs
salt pepper to taste

HOW TO MAKE 

Preheat oven to 350 °C drizzle about 1 tbsp EVOKE in sauté pan.

Add onion, peppers, thyme, sauté until veggies are softened, about 10 min add mixed garlic.

Remove from hot In a large mixing bowl combine ground beef, pork sausage, eggs, breadcrumbs.

Add the dried vegetables, wordshine sauce, tomato pasta and beef stock. Mix gently with fingers.

Add spices to taste. Spray baking pan with non-stick spray and form the ground beef mixture in a layer of ketchup on top Bake 1 hour or until meatloaf is completely cooked.

Place a pan of water under the meatloaf to keep it moist and this will also prevent it from cracking.

3: Variations on the Classic Meatloaf Recipe

There are endless variations on the classic meatloaf recipe, allowing you to get creative and try out new flavors. Some popular variations include:

BBQ Meatloaf: Add BBQ sauce to the mixture and top the meatloaf with more BBQ sauce before baking.
Italian Meatloaf: Use ground pork and add Italian seasoning, diced bell peppers, and grated Parmesan cheese to the mixture.
Mexican Meatloaf: Use ground turkey and add diced jalapeños, cumin, chili powder, and diced tomatoes to the mixture. Top the meatloaf with shredded cheese before baking.
