Beef Stroganoff is a classic Russian dish that has been popular for over a century. Ingredients

  • 500g beef sirloin or tenderloin, sliced into thin strips
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 cups of mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 2 cups of beef broth
  • 1 cup of sour cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional ingredients: white wine, mustard, and paprika

Preparation

  1. In a large pan, heat 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced beef and cook until browned on both sides, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add the remaining butter, onions, garlic, and mushrooms. Cook until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the flour to the pan and stir to combine with the vegetables. Cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
  4. Gradually add the beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the sour cream and the cooked beef. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  6. Serve over cooked pasta or rice.
