1 pound ground beef
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 small onion, diced
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cups beef broth
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
4 potatoes, peeled and quartered
1/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
salt and pepper to taste
1 pound string beans, trimmed
4 Hawaiian rolls
In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, milk, and diced onion. Form the mixture into 4 patties.
Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are browned.
In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and flour. Pour the mixture over the patties in the pan.
Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened.
While the patties are cooking, prepare the mashed potatoes by adding the potatoes to a pot of boiling water. Boil for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
Drain the potatoes and add them back to the pot. Mash the potatoes with the milk and butter, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Steam the string beans for 5-7 minutes, or until they are tender.
Split the Hawaiian rolls and toast them lightly.
To serve, place a patty on each roll and top with some of the onion gravy. Serve the mashed potatoes and string beans on the side.
